Arrival guide

Practical guidance for getting into Accra and around it. Where something is not yet confirmed, this page says so rather than guessing.

For entry requirements, which almost every delegate needs to act on before booking, see the entry requirements page.

Getting from the airport

You arrive at Kotoka International Airport, Terminal 3.

Vetted SASCON transfer arrangements will be published here once the venue is confirmed. An honest account of Accra traffic, from a named and dated source, will be published with them; this page will not hand you a guessed journey time.

Ride-hailing apps operate in Accra. Card payment in the apps often fails, so cash or mobile money is the reliable rail: set your app to cash before you land.

Getting to Accra

Flight routes and frequencies into Accra will be published here after they are re-verified in the month before travel dates. Airline schedules change too often for this page to repeat old research.

Money

The currency is the Ghanaian cedi (GHS). Mobile money is the real local rail: it is how most day-to-day payments move, and it is worth understanding before you arrive.

A hotel block with verified rates will be published once confirmed. Before booking anything, read the accommodation notice on the FAQ: SASCON works with no booking agency for this event.

Connectivity

Activate an eSIM before you arrive, so you land connected rather than negotiating a SIM counter after a long flight.

Power

Power outages in Accra are unplanned rather than scheduled. Plan for them the way you would plan for turbulence: carry a power bank, and do not leave presentations on a machine with an empty battery. The venue's backup power arrangements will be published once the venue is confirmed.

Weather

Verified July climate figures for Accra will be published here. Until they are, this page states no temperatures or rainfall numbers.

Culture and excursions

Ghana is worth staying for. A full Ghana experience page, with excursions described honestly, including how long and how demanding each really is, arrives with the programme.

Public holidays and festival dates around the conference will be published here once the 2027 gazette and the festival calendars are confirmed.

Safety

You are a security audience, and this page will not spin you. Every safety claim published here will be attributed to the issuing government and dated, so you can see how current it is and judge it yourself.

Government travel advisories for Ghana

The wording of this section is awaiting sign-off by the chapter chair and may change before publication.

Health

Yellow fever vaccination: Mandatory from 9 months, checked at port of entry. Vaccinate in good time before travel, and carry your certificate whatever its issue date.

Malaria and outbreak guidance will be published here once verified against the current national travel health authorities. Until then, consult your travel clinic before booking; this page will not repeat health advice from memory.
